Polymer Clay Adrift 5 Months

Back in April I sent a package out to Ireland. It was traveling from Florida so it had a long way to go. It weighed just under 3 lbs and it was chock full of a lovingly curated collection of polymer clay items. A package that any newbie would love to have because it contained absolutely everything you need to start playing with polymer clay and so many things you don’t need to start but would love to add to a collection. Not all of it was purchased. Some things I came up with on my own or 3D printed myself. But all of it was related to polymer clay and all of it was happily picked out from my stash by me.

I had seen a polymer clay newbie’s comment in one of the Facebook groups I frequent and I was touched by her candor at wishing she had access to more things. I reached out to her about sending her some clay. She accepted my offer and I decided to turn the little package of clay into something bigger. So I did. I didn’t tell her everything that was in the package but I really had a lot of fun picking things out.

Well, 5 months later the package was back on my doorstep marked undeliverable. I never was able to confirm if I had the wrong address. I reached out to her again after the package was returned but I didn’t hear back. It’s been a couple of weeks so I wanted to find another recipient and get this little package traveling again to its new home. So here we are!

I’ve posted over on my Instagram page to give it away. If you’d like a chance to win it, details are over there. And good luck to you!

Before I tell you the contents of the package I want to explain the colors in some of these pictures. One of the packages of mica powder opened and got over everything. Covered. Everything. Pink. Eeeek!

When I first opened the package to check that the clay had not baked en-route I thought to myself hmmm…what lovely tissue paper I wrapped these things in! And then I saw my fingers were pink and shiny. I realized it wasn’t the tissue paper. It was the mica! One of the packages opened and it turned everything pink. I have removed half of the items and washed everything carefully. I will finish doing the rest before this package goes back out into the world. But that’s why some of the pictures show everything pink and shiny. It’s a lovely color but it doesn’t need to be in every nook and cranny of everything in the package. LOL

So what’s in the package? Here’s a list of items. I reserve the right to put more stuff in it before it heads back out! 😆

  • Sculpey polymer clay kit. See contents here.
  • 5 bars of Sculpey Premo clay, 57g each. Zinc Yellow, Fuchsia, Turquoise, Translucent & Gold
  • A half bar of Sculpey clay softener
  • Brushes to sweep away corn starch or mica
  • Texture mat
  • Genuine Dualplex sponge for the best back-of-earring texture
  • Various texture rollers
  • Ball-tipped tools
  • Silicone tipped tools
  • An assortment of cutters
  • A metal huggie baking form which can double as a clay roller
  • Silicone flower mold
  • 6 little pots of mica powders, including the almost empty pink one. There’s still plenty left for quite a few projects
  • 2 pots of mica chrome powders
  • Water soluble transfers sheets
  • Water soluble transfer bookmarks
  • Gold leaf flakes
  • Silver leaf flakes
  • A package of gold leaf sheets
  • Silver-color earring findings
  • Gold-color earring findings
  • But wait, there’s more! 😆
  • There really is more but it’s a hodge podge mixture of useful odds and ends. So, SURPRISE to the winner!

The Sculpey kit alone contains absolutely everything for a newbie to get started! Including 6 bars of clay, a plastic roller, a blade (BE CAREFUL!), a needle tool, a circle cutter, a lentil bead tool, findings and instructions. You can see the full content details linked above.

Regarding the 5 bars of Premo clay – I made sure they’re great mixing colors. The real primaries needed to make just about any color in the rainbow! The blue is turquoise instead of Cobalt but it will still make great color blends. And the yellow is the Zinc Yellow which is only available online at the Sculpey site (what is up with that Sculpey?!) Plus I included the all important translucent AND a metallic because the mica shift technique is Ah. Ma. Zing! Seriously, I’ll be posting about it later. But look it up in the meantime. It’s such a fantastic, and EASY, technique that makes incredibly elegant components!

I haven’t finished washing the mica off everything but I’ll do that before the package ships out again. Only good stuff and fun times in this package!

So head on over to Instagram if you’d like a chance to win this little treasure trove of clay. And best of luck to you! https://www.instagram.com/p/DezB7N4kd4k/
