Description
When You Can’t Find the Real Thing – Proper flower-sculpting foam has just the right combination of density, thickness and give—but it isn’t always easy to find. I tried making my own by gluing layers of ordinary kids’ craft foam together, only to discover that the glue created hard spots that interfered with sculpting. So I tried something different. I created the Sculpting Flower Foam Frame to suspend inexpensive craft foam on. It provides flexible support instead of pressing the inexpensive foam directly against a hard work surface. Just glue the foam onto it and it’s done. I tested it with one and two layers added and even a single layer provided enough support to the clay that I was able to sculpt a simple flower.
This is not intended to replace proper flower-sculpting foam. It’s a practical workaround for those times when the real material isn’t available. I’ve tested it with ordinary kids’ craft foam, and while you need to work with the limitations of the thinner material, it works!

A Little Something from My Workbench
Some of my favorite tools begin with a very simple thought: I could really use a…(insert a need here!)
So I make one.
Sometimes it’s for polymer clay. Sometimes it’s for organizing my studio. And sometimes an idea sends me down a completely unexpected rabbit hole. If I create something that earns its keep around here, I figure it might be useful in your creative space too.
That’s what you’ll find in Specialty Tools: the useful little things I’ve designed for myself, tested in real life, and decided were simply too handy not to share. I hope it helps you too!
