Today kicks off National Clay Week, and around here, that’s a big deal.
Traditionally, this week is a beautiful celebration focused on the rich history, the incredible teachers, and the deeply rooted art of ceramic clay. And honestly? I honor that completely. There is something so very special about a craft that connects us directly to the earth, to ancient history, and to the brilliant artisans who pass those techniques down from generation to generation.
But you know me… I’m not one to sit on the sidelines when there’s a celebration happening. Not one about clay anyway. I’ve been known to skip other celebrations entirely.
So this week, I am declaring that ceramic clay’s vibrant, colorful “little sister”—Polymer Clay (PC)—is officially getting in on the fun! 🥳🎨
Because at the end of the day, whether you are firing up a massive, high-tech kiln in a pottery studio or using a kitchen counter and a toaster oven, the heart of the craft is exactly the same:
- It’s about expression. Taking a raw, shapeless lump of material and molding it into something beautiful with your own two hands.
- It’s about learning. Tripping over mistakes, discovering clever shortcuts (remind me to tell you about my baby-sock one), and honoring the trial-and-error that makes us better creators.
- And most importantly, it’s about community. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I don’t want the Full Bobbin Hub to just be a lonely corner of the internet where I talk at you. Life is far too short to make our hobbies dreary or solitary! I want this space to be a bustling, warm, and sometimes slightly silly community. The kind of place where we celebrate each other’s wins, laugh off the epic baking disasters, and share the joy of making. Wherever I go in real life, I make friends—and I fully intend to do the exact same thing right here with you.
So, to celebrate National Clay Week, I have a little gift to get your hands dirty. I’ve been glued to my computer screen for days, putting the absolute final touches on my brand-new, Beginner’s Guide to Polymer Clay. It is packed with tried-and-true techniques from my own studio, and it’s officially ready for you.

Let’s make this week about honoring the artists who came before us, teaching the ones coming up behind us, and building a community where everyone has a seat at the table (or a space in the studio, as it were).
